Passing a school bus is a violation of O.C.G.A. §40-6-163 and the minimum fine for a first offense is $300. For a second offense the fine is a minimum of $750. Unless excepted by O.C.G.A. §40-6-163(d)(D)(4), this offense will also have a serious impact on the points on your license. Passing a stopped school bus will cause DDS to assess 6 points to your license, which can cause a substantial increase in your insurance premiums and may affect your license status. In addition, if you are under 21 a conviction for passing a stopped school bus will cause your license to be suspended for 6 months.
