If you are a young diver under the age of 21 and you have been given a traffic ticket you should contact an attorney immediately. Traffic tickets for younger drivers can have serious consequences.
A driver under the age of 21 will face a mandatory license suspension upon assessment of only 4 points to their driver’s license (this means that an automatic suspension will result if an under 21 driver is convicted of driving in excess of 24 miles per hour over the speed limit). Automatic suspensions for under 21 drivers may occur in the following instances:
• A single conviction of speeding 24 miles per hour over the speed limit
• Accumulation of 4 points on his/her license within 12 months
• A conviction of reckless driving, aggressive driving, DUI, hit and run, attempting to purchase alcohol, and several others.
Under 21 drivers are not eligible for provisional or temporary licenses in most circumstances. As a result, they will not be able to drive even to school or work during a suspension.
Insurance consequences can also be more severe for drivers under 21. While insurance rates almost always increase for drivers who accumulate points on their driver’s licenses, teen and young drivers can see a very significant increase in insurance rates after conviction of a relatively minor traffic ticket.
If you or a family member has gotten a citation and is under the age of 21 please contact Lindsay Reese immediately to begin aggressive representation! In many instances the harsh consequences imposed by the law can be avoided with the right attorney on your side.
